JEWEL VERTNER WOODSON TANDY INSTALLATION

  • St. Philips Episcopal Church 204 West 134th Street New York, NY, 10030 United States (map)

Celebrate Founders’ Day with The Harlem Alphas at Jewel Vertner Woodson Tandy Installation.

In recognition of Jewel Vertner Woodson Tandy’s contributions and St. Philip’s connections to Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, we are gifting this installation to the church community as it is headed by Alpha Gamma Lambda’s Spring 2019 Initiate and Rector Rev. Terence Alexander Lee.

On Sunday, December 4th, The Harlem Alphas will honor Jewel Vertner Woodson Tandy’s contributions to New York City’s architecture from Madam C.J. Walker’s Villa Lewaro Estate in Irvington, New York to St. Philip’s Episcopal Church in Harlem, New York.

The 6th Rector, Bro. Rev. Shelton Hale Bishop, was a charter member of Eta Chapter and he is an active member of our Fraternity. His father, the Reverend Hutchens Chew Bishop, was Rector when Jewel Tandy’s firm built structure for St. Philip’s.

It is important to note that St. Philip’s was not only an architectural project for Jewel Tandy but also it was his home to worship for several decades. This installation is a symbol of the enduring bond that we hope to foster in the years to come.

Be sure to come out and celebrate with us.
